Turkmenistan has a subtropical desert climate that is sharply continental. The most precipitation between January and May. There is not much precipitation throughout the country, the annual average ranges from 300 millimeters in the Kopetdag to eighty millimeters in the northwest. The almost constant winds are northerly, northeasterly, or westerly.
Summers are long, hot, and dry, ranging from May to September.
Winters are mild and dry, although in the north it can be cold and damp. The graph shows the average temperatures in Turkmenistan for each month. The highest temperature ever recorded in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan's capital, was 116 degrees Fahrenheit which was recorded in June 1995. The lowest temperature of -11 degrees Fahrenheit was recorded in January 1969.

Medium to heavyweight clothing is necessary during the winter. Wherever you go, take a sweater for cool evenings.
Turkmenistan is known as Central Asia's hottest country. Spring (April-June) and autumn (September-November) are the best times to visit because this is when weather conditions are the most suitable. During summer, particularly July and August, the temperature can tip up to 50 degrees Celsius on a regular basis, while winters can get very cold, down to freezing in some parts of the north.
